The Light of Faith: Understanding Islam's Six Fundamental Beliefs

Assalamu Alaikum, dear readers,

In the pursuit of understanding our faith, Islam, we embark on a journey guided by the profound teachings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Today, let us delve into the rich tapestry of Islamic beliefs encapsulated in the articles of faith and the pillars of Islam.

As Muslims, our faith is built upon six fundamental beliefs known as the Articles of Faith. These core tenets serve as a guiding light, illuminating our path towards spiritual enlightenment and a deeper connection with the Divine. Let us explore the profound wisdom enshrined within each of these beliefs, drawing upon the sacred words of the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

  1. Belief in Allah (God) : At the heart of our faith lies the unwavering belief in the One True God, Allah. The Quran states, "Say, 'He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; And there is none like unto Him.'" (112:1-4). This fundamental belief in Allah's Oneness and Uniqueness sets the foundation for our spiritual journey.

  2. Belief in Angels : We believe in the existence of angels, celestial beings created by Allah to serve Him and carry out His commands. The Quran mentions, "Praise be to Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth, and appointed the angels as messengers with wings, two, three, and four." (35:1). The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Believe in Allah and His angels." (Bukhari, Muslim)

  3. Belief in the Books : Muslims affirm their belief in the divine revelations sent by Allah to guide humanity. The Quran is the final and complete revelation, while previous scriptures like the Torah and the Gospel are also acknowledged. Allah says, "It is He Who has sent down the Book to you with truth, confirming what came before it. And He sent down the Torah and the Gospel." (3:3)

  4. Belief in the Prophets : We believe in the long line of prophets sent by Allah to guide humankind towards the path of righteousness. The Quran mentions, "And We sent never a messenger except to be obeyed by Allah's leave." (4:64). The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the final messenger, as affirmed in the Quran: "Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the last of the Prophets." (33:40)

  5. Belief in the Day of Judgment : Muslims believe in the inevitability of the Day of Resurrection, when all humanity will be held accountable for their deeds. The Quran states, "Then, on that Day, you shall be called to account for your glories." (102:8). The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should either utter good words or keep silent." (Bukhari, Muslim)

  6. Belief in Divine Decree : We believe that Allah alone is the Sovereign Ruler, and everything that occurs in the universe is by His Divine Will and Decree. The Quran declares, "Verily, We have created all things with Divine Pre-ordainment." (54:49). The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Believe in the Divine Decree, its good and its bad." (Muslim)

The Six Articles of Faith serve as a guiding compass, leading us through life's complexities while reminding us of our purpose and accountability before the Almighty. By internalizing and adhering to these beliefs, we nurture a profound sense of spirituality, ethics, and reverence for the Divine.

Brothers & Sisters , let's strive to embody these teachings in our daily lives, seeking Allah's pleasure in all our endeavors.

Jazakum Allahu Khairan.
